In rund zwei Wochen erscheint Ubuntu in der Version 19.10, welche diesmal den Codenamen Eoan Ermine trägt. Wie man der Ankündigung über die Veröffentlichung der Beta entnehmen kann, sind die Änderungen wie gewohnt für alle größeren Varianten des Betriebssystems, wie etwa Kubuntu, Lubuntu, Ubuntu MATE und weitere, übernommen worden.
Zu den Neuerungen selbst gibt es bisher nicht viel zu berichten, denn diese beschränken sich zu einem großen Teil auf kosmetische Änderungen am System. So sind beispielsweise neue Wallpaper mit an Bord und Canonical überarbeitete ihr Theme Yaru. Letzteres kommt nun sowohl in einer neuen hellen Version, als auch in einer überarbeiteten dunklen Variante daher.
Als Basis dient der Kernel in Version 5.3 und die jeweiligen Desktopumgebungen sind ebenfalls in aktueller Version verfügbar. Erstmals bietet Ubuntu dem Nutzer nun die Möglichkeit, den proprietären Nvidia-Treiber direkt vom Installationsmedium des Grundsystems aus zu installieren. Canonicals Pläne sahen vor, das Dateisystem ZFS in Ubuntu 19.10 zu integrieren. Obwohl das Image bereits über alle nötigen Pakete verfügt, wurde ZFS aufgrund interner Unstimmigkeiten bisher noch nicht in den Installer integriert.
