Die größte Neuerung von GNOME 3.36 ist der überarbeitete Sperrbildschirm. Dieser sieht jetzt nicht nur besser aus, sondern ist nun auch funktionaler und leichter zu bedienen. Die Entwickler haben aber nicht nur den Sperrbildschirm optisch aufgefrischt. Auch diverse Systemdialoge erhielten ein neues Aussehen, was hauptsächlich die Lesbarkeit von Texten verbessern soll. Die Anordnung der Bedienflächen zum Ein- und Ausschalten des Computers wurden geändert und Passwortfelder erlauben dem Anwender nun, den eingegebenen Text bei Bedarf anzuzeigen.
Mithilfe des neuen „Do Not Disturb“-Buttons lassen sich die Benachrichtigungen auf ein Minimum beschränken. Ist der „Nicht stören“-Modus aktiviert, zeigt GNOME nur noch wichtige Systembenachrichtigungen wie beispielsweise für einen fast leeren Akku an.
GNOME-Erweiterungen werden nun nicht mehr über GNOME Software verwaltet. Hierfür kann jetzt die speziell zu diesem Zweck entwickelte Anwendung GNOME Extensions verwendet werden. GNOME Software ist nun dazu in der Lage getaktete Verbindungen zu erkennen und bei aktiver getakteter Verbindung den Download von Aktualisierungen automatisch zu pausieren. Zudem haben die Entwickler die Systemeinstellungen leicht überarbeitet. Die Kategorien wurden neu sortiert und sollen sich nun leichter finden lassen. Die Menüpunkte Über und Benutzerverwaltung wurden optisch überarbeitet.
GNOME bietet schon seit langer Zeit einen eigenen Internetbrowser. Dieser hört auf den Namen GNOME Web und kann mit GNOME 3.36 nun auch PDFs darstellen. Außerdem passt sich die Benutzeroberfläche nun der Bildschirmgröße an. Auch GNOME Clocks erhielt die Funktionalität sich an den Bildschirm anpassen zu können. Außerdem wurde das Design von Clocks grundlegend überarbeitet.
Die Virtualisierungssoftware GNOME Boxes kommt nun mit einem Tutorial daher und bietet zudem die Möglichkeit, mit UEFI zu booten. Im Einrichtungsprozess einer neuen virtuellen Maschine ist nun das Einstellen der Anzahl der genutzten CPUs möglich.

China Daily, a state-backed newspaper, noted that “The US, after the killing of Floyd, seems to be on fire, and troops have been mobilized to subdue angry demonstrators.”
“This is certainly not what the world expects to see in a country that is the world’s sole superpower,” it added. “But that sadly is the reality of the US.”
This rhetoric isn’t just embarrassing for Washington, it’s also a sign of how the US may find its influence damaged by a perceived hypocrisy over human rights at home and abroad.
Earlier today, Hong Kong’s leader Carrie Lam pointed to the unrest in the US as evidence of Washington’s “double standards.”
“They attach great importance to the national security of their country, but look at our national security through tinted spectacles, especially the current situation in Hong Kong,” she added.
The ability of Washington to influence Beijing’s position on Hong Kong – which is in part founded on fear of outside influence in the city – was already severely limited. The Trump administration’s reaction to protests at home may have hurt its position even further.
